Since implementing videomail in @Mail version 4.61, we have been working to provide the server-side software to our customers who wish to host the video message files on their own network. The first version of this VideoMail Server software is finally ready.
VideoMail Server provides the capability to record video message streams. Although the video technology used is the FLV format and utilizes RTMP, it is not necessary to purchase any flash video-streaming software or licenses from Adobe (VideoMail Server runs Red5, which is the open-source answer to Adobe’s Flash Media Server).
Also included in the package is a new WebAdmin screen which allows the @Mail administrator to search the VideoMail database, delete video message files, and view details from each video message recorded on the system.
The great advantage to using VideoMail Server is control of content. With any recent version of @Mail, your users can send videomail, but the videos are recorded to our server (video.atmail.com). For some people this is no problem, but those seeking finer control will find it in VideoMail Server.
For hosting providers wishing to add value to their service offering, videomail is tantalizing. Better still is being able to provide the video streaming technology from your own hosting environment, and to manage the content. Corporations, government, and educational institutions may require video messages to be hosted in-house for security reasons.
It’s a great time to get in on the ground floor with this technology, as we are seeing an upsurge of video content in general and popularity of video messaging in particular. We are pioneering the technology that provides videomail in your web browser with no ungainly add-ons, and following up with it’s powerful server-side component.
