Video Blog - @Mail at WWDC

June 11, 2007

Hello from WWDC in San Francisco!

For this trip, I’ve created a proof-of-concept Video Blog Widget for OS X’s Dashboard:

http://atmail.com/@Mail_Video_Blog.zip

How does it work? Well, on the server-side, a script scrapes a user directory (when requested, if allowed access) and picks out all of the videomail links, then presents them with the date and subject of the videomail message, in RSS2 format.

So it’s easy to post a Video Blog message, we just send a videomail to the account being used as a “Video Blog” account in @Mail.

The widget consumes the RSS feed and flips over to show you the video blog entry when you click on one of the links. Check it out, it’s pretty cool.

Later we’ll work out a way to make the Video Blog feature available to anyone. For now, feel free to keep tabs on us as we post video blog entries throughout the conference. If you’d like to see yourself on the widget, use @Mail to send a Video Mail to videoblog@atmail.com. If we like it, it will get posted.

If you don’t have an @Mail account yet, you can sign up for a free one at:

If you’re curious about the server-side script, I’ve posted a topic on the forum about it:
