@Mail Webmail and Email Server Requirements Guide

1. The @Mail System

The @Mail Application is provided in two modes, Webmail and Email Server plus Webmail. With the Webmail Mode, you can use @Mail as an email client for your users. In the Email Server plus Webmail you can provide email services from the @Mail application, and administer the system, including but not limited to modifying, deleting and creating Email Accounts.

You may use the Webmail mode to allow visitors to your Website to connect to their existing POP3 or IMAP accounts.

You may use the Email Server and Webmail mode to create an Email Portal site where users can sign-up and create email accounts.

2. @Mail Webmail Client

As a WebMail Client, users can access @Mail via any browser or wireless device. Requests are handled by the Webserver (Apache) which runs the @Mail application.

User settings, Address Book, Scheduler tasks, profiles and account information are stored in a MySQL database. If using an IMAP account, all email messages will remain on the remote-mailserver. For POP3 accounts, the account Inbox will remain on the mailserver, messages moved from the Inbox to a local folder via WebMail will be stored in the mySQL database.

In Server Mode, @Mail functions as a complete Email system. Users can optionally sign-up online and have full access to their email account via both the WebMail interface and using desktop POP3/IMAP clients. Using the WebAdmin interface, @Mail can be configured to run as a complete mail-server system for an ISP, company or as an office mail-server. The software can optionally be setup as a Freemail/Hotmail type service to offer WebMail services online.

User settings, Address Book, Scheduler tasks, profiles and user authentication information are stored in a MySQL database. Messages received by @Mail are stored on the local filesystem in Maildir format. POP3, IMAP, and WebMail retrieve the messages from the Maildir database.
